Mission

 

  1. To unite people of Urhobo descent and others who identify with Urhobo people and culture abroad and at home for the promotion of human development and Urhobo culture and ideals. The Association shall promote charitable, scientific, literary and educational projects in North America and Nigeria.
  2. To this end, the motto of the Association in Urhobo language shall be “Okugbe, Egba, Voyan Robaro” which translates in English as “Unity, Strength and Progress.”
  3. To provide social support for its members and to act as the nucleus for promoting love and unity amongst members for the common good of its community.
  4. To promote the awareness of all persons, within the Nigerian community in Michigan, about Urhobo cultural attire, traditions, foods, heritage and traditional norms.

Meetings

The UPUMI members meets once a month at 5:00p.m., on the fourth (4th) Saturday, from January to November, yearly.

The Association holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November, yearly.

The Monthly Meetings are hosted by member-families in their homes and Urhobo foods and delicacies supported with drinks and snacks, are always in abundance.

Interested would-be members, visitors and Guests are welcome to attend any of our meetings stated above. Feel free to attend this month’s meeting whose information are given below:
